As the General Manager of the Washington Commanders, Adam Peters oversees all aspects of the organization’s football operations. In 2024, Peters helped build a roster that finished 12-5, the franchise’s best regular-season record since 1991. The team also won its first playoff game since 2005 and advanced to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991. Peters became the first general manager in franchise history to win 12 or more games in his first season with the organization.

Previously, Peters served as the San Francisco 49ers’ assistant general manager. During his time in San Francisco, he helped build a roster that became one of the NFL’s most successful. In his roles as vice president of player personnel and assistant general manager, the 49ers recorded four winning seasons and four playoff appearances. The team also won the NFC West three times in the five seasons through 2023.

Peters has been part of successful organizations throughout his more than 20-year NFL career. He began as a scout with the New England Patriots, who reached three Super Bowls and won two during his six seasons with the organization. He then joined the Denver Broncos, rising from scout to assistant director of college scouting and eventually director of college scouting. From 2012-2015, the Broncos made the playoffs in five consecutive seasons and won Super Bowl 50 over the Carolina Panthers.

Peters joined the 49ers in 2017 and played a key role in acquiring and developing several foundational pieces of the team’s roster. Among them are George Kittle, a five-time Pro Bowler and 2019 First-Team All-Pro; Fred Warner, a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time First-Team All-Pro; Talanoa Hufanga, a 2022 Pro Bowler and First-Team All-Pro; and Brock Purdy, who was selected with the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft and finished the 2023 season fifth in passing yards, fourth in completion percentage and third in passing touchdowns.

Peters’ personnel impact also extended to the 49ers’ acquisition of running back Christian McCaffrey, who led the NFL in rushing yards during the 2023 season.

Before entering the NFL, Peters spent one season in 2002 as a football operations graduate assistant at UCLA, where he had previously played defensive end from 1999-2001. He transferred to UCLA from West Valley Junior College in Saratoga, California, where he played tight end for two seasons (1997-98) and earned all-conference honors.

A native of Cupertino, California, Peters attended Monta Vista High School, where he was a two-sport standout in football and baseball. Peters is married to his wife, Jennifer, and the couple has two daughters, Alexandra and Emilia.
