Brad Hand has made a significant mark on Major League Baseball as one of the best relief pitchers of his era, known for his devastating slider and remarkable poise under pressure. His transformation from a starting pitcher to an All-Star closer began with the San Diego Padres, where a waiver claim in 2016 set the stage for his ascent. Brad’s mastery in the bullpen was highlighted by three consecutive All-Star selections from 2017 to 2019, affirming his capability to perform in clutch situations.
Brad’s professional journey started when he was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the second round of the 2008 MLB draft. He debuted in the majors in 2011, but it was his tenure with the Padres that truly catalyzed his career. After proving his mettle in San Diego, Brad was traded to the Cleveland Indians in 2018, where he continued to excel. Despite facing challenges such as arm fatigue in 2019, Brad delivered a flawless performance in save situations during the shortened 2020 season.
Over his 13-year MLB career, Brad showcased his versatility and resilience, playing for nine teams, including the Washington Nationals, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Colorado Rockies, and Atlanta Braves. His adaptability and consistent high-level performance across different franchises highlight his enduring skill and impact within the league. Off the field, Brad is applauded for his sportsmanship and leadership, leaving a lasting influence on his teammates and the broader baseball community. In 2019, he created the Helping Hands charity, which assisted the Cleveland chapter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
