Jennifer King is a trailblazing football coach whose career has redefined what’s possible for women in the NFL. After becoming the first Black woman to serve as a full-time assistant position coach in NFL history as the Washington Commanders’ Assistant Running Backs Coach, she continued breaking barriers as the first woman to lead a position group at the 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl and later coached the national team running backs at the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl.
Following the 2023 NFL season, King joined the Chicago Bears as an Offensive Assistant working with the running backs. In 2025, King accepted an Offensive Analyst position at North Carolina Central University, where she currently coaches the wide receivers. In June 2026, she also became a partner in Level Sporting Club, Chicago’s home for women’s sports.
Before making history in football, King built an accomplished 12-year career in college basketball coaching that included a national championship and National Coach of the Year honors in 2017. She transitioned to football after attending the 2018 NFL Women in Football Forum, which led to internships with the Carolina Panthers working with the wide receivers and running backs over multiple offseasons and preseasons.
She then served as Assistant Wide Receivers Coach for the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football before joining Dartmouth College, where she coached the wide receivers and assisted with offensive quality control for the 2019 Ivy League champions.
In 2020, King joined the Washington Commanders as a full-season Offensive Assistant, working with the running backs and offensive quality control before earning her historic promotion following the season. In addition to her coaching career, King played 13 years of women’s tackle football as a quarterback, wide receiver, and safety with the Carolina Phoenix, New York Sharks, D.C. Divas, and D.C. Prodigy. A seven-time All-American and two-time national champion, her playing experience continues to inform her work developing elite athletes at every level of the game.
