Max Stassi’s career in Major League Baseball is distinguished by his journey from a promising draftee to a respected catcher with a deep legacy in the sport. Drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 2009 MLB draft, Max made his MLB debut with the Houston Astros in 2013. During his time with the Astros, he solidified his reputation as a reliable catcher, known for his defensive prowess and his exceptional ability to manage pitching staffs.
In a strategic move in 2019, Max was traded to the Los Angeles Angels, where he continued to demonstrate his defensive acumen and strategic game-calling skills. With the Angels, Max further honed his craft, becoming a vital component of the team’s defensive framework. His contributions on the field are underpinned by a rich family heritage in baseball, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who all played as catchers in the minor leagues. His brother, Brock Stassi, also reached the MLB level, underscoring the family’s deep-rooted connection to the sport.
After retiring as a player, Max transitioned into a coaching role, rejoining the Angels as a catching coach in November 2025. This role allows him to impart his extensive knowledge and experience to younger players, continuing his influence on the game. Beyond baseball, Max is actively engaged in philanthropy through “Homers for the Hungry,” an annual charity event in Yuba City that he co-hosts with his brother. This event raises significant funds for local food banks, reflecting Max’s dedication to making a positive impact in his community.
